The Hill Country

With its majestic terrain features, comfortable climate,

 

Health Care

 Seton Highland Lakes Medical Center is a modern (built

in the early 1990s),42 Bed acute care hospital that

includes specialties in fields such as internal medicine,

family medicine, cardiology, radiology, ophthalmology

and general surgery. Emergency services are provided

around the clock. Eleven EMS units are available for

ambulance service. Austin is a major medical center.

 

Transportation

Burnet Municipal Airport has an ILS landing system,

a paved and lighted 5000’ runway, and numerous

hangars. Horseshoe Bay also has an ILS landing system

and a paved 6000’ runway. In 1999 Austin opened its

glittering new, state-of-the-art Austin-Bergstrom

International Airport, providing a convenient gateway

from the Hill Country to the rest of the world.

The Highland Lakes

With the creation of the Lower Colorado River Authority

in 1934, Buchanan Dam was built, becoming the first of

six dams that would tame the Colorado River and create

the chain of Highland Lakes: Buchanan, Inks, LBJ,

Marble Falls, and Travis.

Elevation

Because of its Hill Country location Lookout Mountain

West enjoys changes in elevation from 880’ to 1150’

above sea level.

Climate

With an annual average temperature of 66°, average

annual precipitation of 30.22”, and only periodic

snowfall, the Hill Country climate is ideal.

Marble Falls

Founded in 1887, located approximately 50 miles west

of Austin and with a population of approximately 5000,

and over 10,000 in a 7-mile radius Marble Falls was

once home to Comanche Indians. Granite Mountain, an

866’ tall dome of solid pink granite (used in

construction of the Texas State Capital) is a prominent

Marble Falls landmark.

Education

Marble Falls ISD is recognized for providing high quality

K-12 education. Nearby universities include Texas Tech

University Hill Country – Highland Lakes (Marble Falls),

Southwestern (Georgetown), Central Texas College

(Killeen), Texas State (San Marcos) and the University

of Texas, St. Edwards, Concordia, Huston-Tillotson and

Austin Community College (Austin)

Recreation

In addition to fishing and water sports, Marble Falls is

home to local and state parks, tennis facilities and a
